New Year, New Us
Our Ocean-Facing Dune Restaurant, and Award-Winning Bay Bar Get a 2023 Makeover
With the start of a New Year, we were presented with the opportunity to not only give some of the most beloved areas in our hotel a fresh look, but give those areas a fresh look that simultaneously enhances the experience for our guests.
Sticking to our Cornish roots, we have utilized the help of local suppliers in renovating our ocean-facing restaurant and bar spaces to create a relaxed atmosphere for dining, socialising, and drinking. Featured in Trencherman's 2022 for winning "Best Bar List", Bay Bar is the perfect lookout for a captivating view of the world-famous surfing destination, Fistral Beach in Newquay.
With a colour scheme influenced by the hotel's seaside position, the neutral tones of the rope ceiling feature in the Bay Bar perfectly off-sets the blue tones captured in the seating spaces that mimic the famous coastline of Fistral Beach, whilst guests can also experience a "home away from home" feeling in Dune restaurant created using pastoral woven lampshades from Lin Lovekin Baskets. With newly raised flooring in both Dune and Bay Bar, our guests are able to experience an undisturbed vantage point of the dazzling seascapes throughout the year, creating intimate spaces for every moment.
Operations Director Laura Cameron, who led the design, stated "Whilst it's hard to put into words the impact of raising floor levels, I think the view speaks for itself. The new furnishings just work to complement and highlight those views across Fistral and we wanted to create a new relaxing space that carries guests from our coffee to cocktails, sunshine to storm-watching. Bringing in more neutral elements to complement our existing wood cladding from Tom Raffield was important, as was our continued relationships with local suppliers which included Dick Pierce Bellyboards and locally made willow shades to enhance this vision."
Laura went on to say, "The transformation we have been able to complete in a tight turnaround of two weeks is down to the incredible hard work of our teams and our wonderful contractors. Shutting for any amount of time for refurbishment is always hard, especially when access is restricted to the spa and gym. We thank our teams and members for their support during this flurry of refurbishment."
There are plenty of favourites expertly shaken (or stirred) by the mixologists from the award-winning Bar List in Bay Bar, sure to entice any cocktail enthusiast, including the 'Gin & Jam' with Cornish Tarquin's Dry Gin, 'The Hugo' with prosecco, mint, lime, and St Germain Elderflower Liqueur, and the classic 'Amaretto Sour'. Alongside the devilish cocktails, the food menu reflects the laid-back ethos and decor by offering seasonal produce served on sharing boards, light lunches, snacks, and a 'storm in a teacup' Afternoon Tea.
Patrons of Dune Restaurant can tuck into a sharing-style tapas menu with tastes to suit those wanting fodder from the sea, land, and farm. Options include Tuna Tacos, King Prawn Bao Bun, Pork & Black Pudding St Ewe Scotch Egg and Wild Mushroom Arancini and a hand-picked wine list, including local options from Knightor in Cornwall, completes the dining experience.
Bay Bar opens daily from 10am – late, serving food from 12pm – 9pm and Afternoon Tea 12pm – 4pm. Dune Restaurant is open daily serving dinner from 6pm – 9.30pm.
