Do I recommend the two hour Ocean Gaia Ritual? ABSOLUTELY!
A review by Lowenna Pascoe from Cornwall Lover.
We invited Lowenna Pascoe aka Cornwall Lover to take a moment for herself and experience a full spa day at Fistral Spa. Our warming facilities, nourishing rituals and tempting dishes ensured our Revitalise Spa Day took top place at must-do spa day in Cornwall.
Whether it’s the envious location and panoramic ocean views, luxurious suites complete with a private balcony and bubbling hot tub, or the mouth-watering cocktails and seasonal menu in the Dune Restaurant; Fistral Beach Hotel & Spa is at the top of everyone’s list when it comes to beach-side holidays in the UK’s surfing capital, Newquay.
Renowned for being one of the world’s top surfing destinations, Fistral Beach is backed by high cliffs and sand dunes, making it the perfect natural playground for its visitors. After a day in the surf, you’ll be looking for a little relaxation, so let me let me show you around Fistral Beach Hotel’s amazing spa and tell you a little bit about my visit…
Feeling very smug that we had the pool to ourselves, my fiance and I were passed fluffy white robes and a pair of slippers before we were given a tour around the spa. After a quick change and shower, we headed straight into the pool area…and relax.
One of the first things you’ll notice is the high ceiling with the most beautiful lighting. Swim here in the evening and I am sure it will feel like you have a blanket of stars glistening above you. If you’re thinking of coming here for a romantic weekend away, then be sure to find out how you can enjoy exclusive use of the pool after hours with a glass of bubbles for you and your partner (choose from 9pm - 10pm or 10pm - 11pm for £50).
After swimming a couple of laps (we were here to relax after all) we jumped into the hot hub where we indulged in some well needed ‘us’ time, discussing our future wedding plans and the all important honeymoon. With the spa still empty with just ourselves, we soon hopped out the tub and moved onto the next facility…
Ah the sauna. Is it just me or do they always seem to smell incredible? Saunas are great for leaving us feeling invigorated, reducing tension in the joints, relieving sore muscles and of course they help us to relax. Fistral Spa also boasts a steam room, perfect for clearing the skin, removing toxins and reducing stress. By now I was already floating on cloud nine, I couldn’t have felt anymore relaxed…
Until we we’re showed up to the relaxation room before our treatment.
Say hello to the relaxation room at Fistral Spa, complete with the most comfortable beds, selection of flavoured water and herbal teas, magazines and Gaia skincare products which guests are welcomed to try out. Inspired by Gaia the ancient Greek Goddess known as Mother Nature, Gaia Natural Skincare products are handmade in Britain using traditional production methods. Find out more about the products here.
After a 30 minute chill time, we were more than ready for our two hour Ocean Gaia Ritual. The therapists collected us from the relaxation room leading us to our individual treatment rooms where the rooms were already prepared for our pampering.
This AMAZING two hour ritual is described as a deeply therapeutic ritual to release tension and stress bringing the mind and body into harmonious balance. Sounds great right?
The treatment began with a Foot Ritual using the Gaia Awakening Body Oil and Scrub, followed by a full body exfoliation and application of the nourishing Gaia mud. I then jumped in the showered, before a Gaia blend of body oil was poured warmly onto my body for a muscle-easing massage. Choose your own oil and the therapist will ask you how soft/firm you would like the massage and which areas you would like them to concentrate on. It doesn’t end there…I was then spoiled with a scalp massage (who know how amazing this was, I could have an hour of just this) while wrapped in warming towels. Last but by no means least, the ritual was brought to an end with the Gaia rejuvenating face treatment (using Gaia’s cleansing balm, toner, face serum and lip balm) leaving a natural feeling of well-being, whilst my skin is left smooth and replenished.
Do I recommend the two hour Ocean Gaia Ritual? ABSOLUTELY! I think my fiance agrees, considering he fell asleep as soon as the massage began.
Treatments were then followed by a two course lunch and glass of bubbles at Dune Restaurant. Feeling ever so sleepy, we stayed in our robes and were seated in the beautiful restaurant surrounded by white drapes with a backdrop of the Atlantic rollers and golden sands of Fistral Beach. Dune Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
We both opted for the antipasti as a starter which came with a selection of meats, bread, pickled onions, sun dried tomatoes, peppers stuffed with cream cheese, olives and a homemade houmous that was to die for. For a girl that has eaten many antipasti sharing boards, I can assure you this was the best one yet. I am already planning my trip back to The Dunes restaurant in the hotel.
Then came the main course, a creamy crab linguine which was just enough to fill us up and also very delicious.
Big thank you to Fistral Beach Hotel & Spa for inviting me for the most incredible spa day. Check out their spa offers and start planning your trip, you won’t be disappointed.
